Behind the life-changing support that we provide at The Winchester Beacon is a remarkable group of people who help to make it all possible – our volunteers.

This Volunteers’ Week (1st-7th June 2026), we want to say a heartfelt thank you to every volunteer who gives their time, energy, skills and compassion to support those experiencing homelessness and hardship across Winchester and the surrounding area.

Making a difference every day

The commitment of our volunteers helps us to provide vital services, create a welcoming environment and offer hope to people who need it most.

Whether serving meals, helping with activities, supporting our team behind the scenes, assisting with fundraising events, or simply taking the time to listen, our volunteers make a meaningful difference in the lives of our residents every single day.

Their kindness helps create a community where everyone feels valued, respected and supported.

More than volunteering

For many of our volunteers, supporting The Winchester Beacon is about more than giving back. It is an opportunity to meet new people, develop skills, gain valuable experience, and become part of a compassionate community working together to tackle homelessness and social isolation.

Volunteers regularly tell us how rewarding it is to see the positive impact of their efforts and to know they are helping people rebuild confidence, stability and hope for the future.

Thank you for your dedication

To every volunteer who has supported us over the years – whether you have given a few hours, a few months, or many years of service – thank you.

Your generosity strengthens our organisation and helps us to continue providing essential support to those who need it most. The difference you make cannot be measured simply in hours volunteered; it is reflected in the lives touched, the confidence restored and the hope renewed.

The Winchester Beacon would not be the organisation it is today without you.

Could you be our next volunteer?

As our services continue to grow, we are always looking for enthusiastic and compassionate individuals who would like to join our volunteer team.

Volunteer roles can include:

  • Supporting fundraising and community events
  • Being an ambassador in the community
  • Helping prepare and serve food and refreshments
  • Working alongside staff to support the day-to-day running of our service
  • Assisting with activities
  • Providing administrative and office support
  • Offering specialist skills and professional expertise
  • Gardening and maintenance tasks

Full training, guidance, and ongoing support are provided and you’ll become part of a friendly and dedicated team committed to making a real difference.
