At The Winchester Beacon, we are always looking for innovative ways to raise awareness about homelessness. Recently, we had the pleasure of working with Holly Macdonald, a talented Graphic Design student at the University of Winchester, as part of her final-year project.
Raising awareness of hidden homelessness
After meeting with our team and learning more about our work, Holly chose to focus her project on one of the most pressing but often overlooked crises—hidden homelessness. It is an issue that affects thousands of people who may not be sleeping rough but are forced to seek temporary shelter on friends’ sofas, in cars or in short-term accommodation.
Holly used her creative expertise to design a powerful poster campaign to highlight the realities of hidden homelessness. Using her own imagery and thought-provoking messaging, she challenges common preconceptions around homelessness.
A talented designer making a difference
Throughout the process, Holly’s professionalism, creativity and determination stood out. Her work not only demonstrated her design skills but also conveyed deep empathy for those experiencing homelessness resulting in an impactful campaign.
Welcoming Holly to The Winchester Beacon team
We are excited that Holly has chosen to continue supporting our mission by joining The Winchester Beacon as a volunteer. Her passion for raising awareness and making a difference in the community aligns perfectly with our work. We look forward to seeing her contributions in action.
Strengthening our partnership with the University of Winchester
We truly value our ongoing collaboration with the University of Winchester and are proud to support their students across Graphic Design, Media and Event Management programs. By offering hands-on experience and opportunities steeped in social responsibility, we are committed to nurturing a new generation of socially conscious creatives and advocates.
Holly’s project is a shining example of how creativity can be a powerful tool for social change. We are grateful for her efforts and look forward to further collaborations that help shed light on homelessness and inspire action within our community.
