Employees from Balfour Beatty have coordinated the donation of a huge amount of much-needed items to The Winchester Beacon. Through collaboration with their contacts at Aggregate Industries, PJ Davidson and Mobile VMS, they have given almost £2,000 worth of items.
The Winchester Beacon was contacted by Balfour Beatty a few months ago asking what they could do to make a positive impact on the lives of our residents. They had been working on the M3 junction 9 to 14 project and wanted to give back to the local community and they wanted to be sure that their donation would really benefit the individuals staying with us.
Together we came up with a shopping list of things that would really help. This included specialist inner soles and shoes for a resident with sore feet, steel toe capped boots for a resident hoping to progress in construction, a new coffee table for the lounge area in our main building, duvets and sheets for residents moving to their own accommodation and supermarket vouchers to help residents with their first shop in their new home.
“The donations are going to make a huge difference to many lives for months to come, our current residents whilst they are with us, but also after they move on.” commented Michèle Price, Chief Executive of The Winchester Beacon. “Often when experiencing homelessness people can feel forgotten, being given items donated by our local community helps to remind our residents that there are people who care and want to help them on their journey.”
