On Thursday 6th June, we invited our community of volunteers to come together and celebrate Volunteers’ Week and the contribution that they make to our vital work.

Volunteers and staff gathered at the Pastoral Hall at St Peter’s Church just over the road from our main site on Jewry Street. The evening was an opportunity for volunteers to connect and catch up. The event included a mix of recent volunteers and others who have supported our charity for many years.

Volunteers also had the opportunity to meet staff including our new CEO, Mark Wakeling. Mark spoke about his charity background, what attracted him to the role at The Beacon and his hopes for the charity going forward.

Mark reflected on the evening: “In the five or so months that I have been working at The Winchester Beacon, it has already been very clear to see the huge contribution that our volunteers make. We have a relatively small team of staff and it is thanks to the support of our volunteers that we are able to operate 24 hours a day and accommodate and support 22 people facing homelessness. This evening, we wanted to bring our volunteers together and celebrate what they do.”

If you are interested in volunteering at our charity, we are looking to recruit more volunteers in the autumn. Please watch this space or email nicci@winchesterbeacon.org.uk for more details. Follow us on Instagram/Facebook @winchesterbeacon and X @winbeacon for our latest news and updates.
