The Winchester Beacon is delighted to be collaborating with Chat-Tea Café on a heart-warming project to celebrate the seventh year of the café.

The project is rooted in kindness with café regulars, volunteers and members of the community coming together to knit handmade blankets which will be given to residents at The Winchester Beacon as they move on from our accommodation and into their new home. Each blanket will be made up of knitted and crocheted squares created by different people which will then be sewn together.

The blankets will not only provide physical warmth but it is hoped that they will also be a meaningful gesture of encouragement and community spirit as individuals take an important step towards independence.

Robyn Kohler, CEO of The Winchester Beacon, commented:

“Our residents can have such mixed feelings at the point that they move to their own home. They often feel excited for the new beginning but also nervous about this big step. Receiving a blanket that has been knitted by people from across our community will be such a special reminder that there are so many people that care and that believe in them. Our vital work is only possible thanks to the support of our local community, the blankets are a thought-provoking symbol of this”

The Wool Project is a unique way to make a tangible difference in someone’s life. Each blanket will carry with it hours of care, compassion and quiet dedication. If you would like to be part of the project you can find out more here – Wool Project 2026
