On Tuesday 19th December 2023, supporters of The Winchester Beacon came together to officially open our new bathroom facilities for residents at our Jewry Street site.
The bathrooms have been installed after years of planning and fundraising. The eight individual shower rooms replace outdated communal washing facilities and give residents the privacy and dignity that they so need during a vulnerable time in their lives.
“We are so pleased to finally be able to offer our residents their own space to wash,” commented Michèle Price, Chief Executive. “We know that the communal washing facilities were off-putting for many current and potential residents. Having a private place to wash and shower will have such a positive impact on the wellbeing of our residents. We would like to thank everyone involved in making this project possible, it has been such a team effort.”
Funders, supporters and trustees gathered to celebrate the achievement and to recognise the part each organisation had played in making the project happen. Our Patron, Dean Catherine Ogle, cut the toilet roll ribbon and gave a ceremonial flush!
The project was generously funded and supported by CRASH charity and their Patrons, the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (Nightshelter Transformation Fund), Hampshire County Council, The National Lottery Community Fund, The Fine and Country Foundation and the Hampshire Chronicle’s Cash for Charities campaign.
