Last week, The Winchester Beacon welcomed staff from M Group Highways’ local office to the kitchen. Together, staff prepared and served a hearty lunch for residents and volunteers.
The team spent the morning chopping, stirring and baking to create an American-themed lunch of chowder followed by a seasonal cake and custard. Volunteers were invited to attend to thank them for their ongoing support as well as current residents and those who have recently moved on to their own accommodation.
M Group Highways’ visit was part of their ongoing commitment to supporting The Winchester Beacon. Their team brought not only practical help but also genuine warmth and kindness to the table.
Adam Watts, Communications and Social Value Manager for M Group Highways, commented on the partnership:
“We’re thrilled to have been given the chance to pilot this lunch initiative with The Winchester Beacon. Our volunteers poured their heart and soul into the cooking and received some lovely feedback. Most importantly, everyone involved had a chance to relax and socialise in a comfortable environment. Homelessness is a complex issue, but initiatives like this can help break down social barriers and forge vital connections.”
Staff from the company plan to return in September and October to create two more meals for volunteers and residents.
Nicci Roberts, Volunteers’ Administrator, commented on the collaboration:
“We really value the partnership that we have built with M Group Highways over recent years. They have taken time to understand our mission and values and are committed to supporting us in ways that really add value. It was great to see volunteers, staff and residents come together to enjoy a home-cooked lunch. The team of staff from M Group brought great energy and enthusiasm to our kitchen and we are all excited about the next lunch date!”.
At The Winchester Beacon we value building long-term partnerships with local businesses keen to transform lives with us. If you are interested in supporting The Winchester Beacon, please contact lucy@winchesterbeacon.org.uk.
