On Thursday 14th November, Winchester kicked off the festive season in style. At 2pm, a large inflatable snow globe was revealed in Market Square.
Shoppers, workers and locals queued with anticipation to have a play in the snow and pose for some festive snaps. A fantastic £1,180 was collected in donations to Spare Change for Lasting Change as people entered the globe and attended the light switch on.
Spare Change for Lasting Change is a diverted giving scheme with money donated being shared between Winchester Churches Nightshelter and Trinity Winchester. This fantastic scheme enables people to help those experiencing homelessness in an effective way. The Christmas lights switch on was hosted by heart Radio’s Jonny Meah and featured a surprise visit from sports presenter and BBC Strictly Come Dancing contestant Mike Bushell. Three local heroes Natalie Devereux, Pamela Chrismas and Michael Day, who were all nominated by the public through the ‘search for local heroes’ campaign turned the lights on.
