Local artist, Catherine Fox, is highlighting homelessness through a range of lino prints which are currently on display in The Discovery Centre, Winchester.
Catherine drew inspiration from her travels in Winchester, Southampton, Wells, London and Royal Leamington Spa where she met and talked to people currently homeless and sleeping rough.
The thought provoking prints are designed to highlight and inspire conversations around the issue of homelessness. Catherine explains: “The problem is difficult to resolve, as there are so many reasons why someone does not have a roof over their head. It can happen to any of us, from all walks of life: perhaps a loss of job, family breakdown, divorce, domestic violence, mental illness, substance misuse, debt, human trafficking or lack of appropriate low cost housing.”
Catherine is keen that the artwork encourages us to talk to eachother and people experiencing homelessness about the issue, that we find out how we can help.
Michèle Price, Chief Executive of the Nighthshelter commented: “Catherine’s thought-provoking artwork encourages people to think about the individuals behind the statistics. Here at the Nightshelter, we are very aware that there is not one route to homelessness, each person who stays with us carries their own experiences and obstacles. We appreciate Catherine using art to bring the subject of homelessness into the spotlight and we are extremely grateful of her support for the Nightshelter.”
The artwork, entitled ‘Conversations about homelessness’ will be on display until the end of January.
