We are pleased to share that refurbishment works have been completed at one of our four-bedroom move on houses. These improvements have only been possible thanks to the generosity and support of our community.

The Winchester Beacon has three move on houses which accommodate 12 people in total. Move on houses play a vital role in our work. They provide a safe and supportive home for people who are ready to take their next steps after homelessness, helping them transition from supported accommodation into more independent living. Having a space that feels comfortable and homely is essential to that journey.

Julian Gerry, is a trustee at The Winchester Beacon and has volunteered his time to lead on the project:

“When we purchased the house several years ago, we knew that the communal space would need updating and improving. After raising sufficient funds we have managed to extend the living space as well as adding another bathroom. We hope that the changes will make the space more comfortable for our residents on their journey out of homelessness.”

Whilst living in our move on houses, residents are supported to reach their goals whether that’s finding employment, improving their health, rebuilding relationships or trying to heal past traumas. Our Tenancy Support Worker, meets with each resident regularly to ensure we are supporting them towards breaking the cycle of homelessness and securing longer-term accommodation and stability.

We are now trying to raise enough funds to update the other shared bathroom in the house as well as making decorative improvements to the kitchen and dining areas.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this refurbishment possible. Your support is helping people move forward, one home and one life at a time.
