After many months of fundraising and planning, we are pleased to have building works well underway to transform our residents’ bathroom facilities.
Until now, residents have been using outdated communal washing facilities which offered very little privacy. Two showers were located in the corner of the bathroom with no space to undress or dress in private.
These shared facilities are being replaced by eight individual bathrooms which will provide residents with secure and safe place to wash.
“Our residents are often at a vulnerable time in their life” explains Michèle Price, Chief Executive of The Winchester Beacon. “Our focus is on helping each resident to rebuild their life so that they can escape homelessness for good. Having somewhere to stay where they feel safe and comfortable is vital in this journey. We are so pleased that we are one step closer to being able to provide our residents with a place where they can wash privately and in comfort with the dignity they deserve. Thank you to the people who have made this possible.”
The work has been supported by a number of organisations including CRASH Charity which has provided financial support and pro bono professional expertise. This has included pro bono project management from local company, Aecom. The project has also been funded by the DLUHC Transformation Fund, Housing and Communities, the Fine and Country Foundation, Hampshire County Council and The National Lottery Community Fund.
