Throughout September, October and November we are delighted to welcome volunteers from M Group to The Winchester Beacon, where they are getting involved by preparing and cooking a two-course lunch.
The first meal was a great success, with Adam, Tom and Andy getting stuck into the kitchen to prepare a delicious stir-fry followed by a homemade fruit crumble. As well as providing valuable support to The Winchester Beacon, the day gave the volunteers an opportunity to try something new, meet new people and experience the atmosphere at the Beacon.
M Group Volunteers Get Involved In The kitchen
For Adam, volunteering in the kitchen was an opportunity to challenge himself and try something outside his comfort zone. Having previously volunteered with us when helping to redecorate, Adam was already familiar with the work we do and was keen to return and get involved in a different way.
Although he admitted to feeling nervous before the day, Adam said the experience quickly became something he really enjoyed. Reflecting on the day, he said, “It was great to see people mixing and enjoying a good meal”. He added, “I was nervous beforehand but by the end I really enjoyed it.”
A Rewarding Volunteering Experience
Adam wasn’t the only volunteer to have a positive experience. Tom also enjoyed his time in the kitchen, describing the day as a rewarding experience. He said “I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, especially the positive atmosphere and camaraderie in the kitchen. It felt rewarding to contribute to such a worthwhile cause, and I found the whole experience very fulfilling”.
Andy also highlighted the welcoming atmosphere and the opportunity to connect with people throughout the day. He said, “It was a fantastic atmosphere all day and again rewarding being able to chat to everyone and just to be part of the was contribution enough.”
We are looking forward to welcoming more M Group volunteers over the coming months and seeing what they cook up next!
Looking Ahead To Our Supporters Evening
While we continue to welcome M group volunteers to The Winchester Beacon, we’re also looking forward to bringing together our wider community of supporters at our upcoming supporters evening on the 15th October, 6:30pm at The Arc.
The evening will be a chance to celebrate the incredible people, businesses, community groups and organisations who support The Winchester Beacon and help us make a difference.
